Conference materials

The Movement of Conservation Agriculture is interested in promoting CA principles and that is why we have created an open-access website with free materials on CA practices https://agriecomission.com/en.

The following English-language presentations which have been specially prepared by the world-famous experts in the area of Conservation Agriculture are available on the website following the link* https://disk.yandex.ru/d/9i_NWrDu6EIWoA.

Below you can find short desctiptions of the presentations to find what you can be interested in. They can found in the folders entitles appropriately. Unfortunately, there have been some technical drawbacks, so we had to change the time of some presentations.

Day 1

On the first day of the Conference general principles of Conservation Agriculture were discussed with special attention being paid to the biological treatments and new trends in regenerative agriculture.

1. Li Hongwen, professor of the China Agricultural University and the Head of the Conservation Tillage Research Centre, in his turn proves the theses of Amir Kassam dwelling on the history and current trends of CA adoption in China attracting special attention to the governmental policy in the area which appear today one of the key drivers of the CA national and international spread.

2. Gabe Brown, one of the pioneers of the CA movement in the US and Soil Health Academy instructor, shares his experience on the most essential aspects of the Regenerative Agriculture which he has been practising for years and has managed to restore the health of the degraded soil of his farm and return its fertility.

3. The major components of the regenerative agriculture and the role of soil carbon are underlined by Kris Nichols, soil microbiologist, founder and principal scientist of KRIS Systems Education & Consultation, who speaks on the carbon as the key element to the whole soil ecosystem and its health.

Day 2

The second day of the conference was devoted to the role of carbon, carbon sequestration through Conservation Agriculture methods, carbon offset mechanisms and carbon markets.

1. Don Reicosky, soil Scientist from the USDA-ARS and a world-famous expert in the field of CA and soil carbon, has made a comprehensive introductory speech on soil carbon, ecosystem services and the role of Conservation Agriculture in its preservation. In his presentation he analyses the role of carbon at all levels – from molecular interactions to the human health, our food security and the future of our planet.

2. Trey Hill, owner and manager of the Harborview Farms in Rock Hall, speaks about his experience of implementing CA technologies that have not only helped him to regenerate his soil and increase yields but also to sell the sequestrated carbon credits on the Nori market having become one of the first farmers who have received real payments. He underlined the importance of introducing such programs because they can utterly change the perception of farmers and their role in combatting climate change.

3. Radhika Moolgavkar, the representative of the Nori market, in her presentation explains in a very precise and comprehensive manner the trends and mechanisms of voluntary carbon markets operation and describes the specifics of the Nori market.

4. Rafael Guimaraes Requião, Agricultural Attaché of the Embassy of Brazil in Moscow, presents the Brazilian ABC program aimed at stimulating farmers to use CA agricultural technologies which has turned out to be a real success and can serve as an example for other countries. His presentation can found in a separate file entitled „Russian_Day 2“ at 3:53:25 as it was translated consequetively.

Day 3

Unfortunately, (or luckily as our listeners were not too overloaded with information), due to some technical delays we had to postpone some presentations for the third day.

1. Amir Kassam, Global CA-CoP Moderator, in his presentation „World-wide adoption of Conservation Agriculture“ gives an optimistically realistic overview of the global trends which inspire us to expect a further spread of the CA technologies.

2. Roberto Peiretti, Global Farmer Network Director in Argentina, gives a deep and thorough analysis of the the No Till System in his presentation „The No Till System as the pathway to achieve a Sustainable, Efficient and Profitable Farming System Performance“ where he manages to cover all the major elements of the CA technologies both traditional and modern, including GMO and biological treatments. And not only does he speak on the theory but he proves all his theses with personal experience.

Finally, the representatives of the Canadian Consulting Agency in Low Carbon and Sustainable Agriculture Viresco Solutions Karen Haugen-Kozyra and Brain McConkey give a general overview of different types of carbon markets, including compliance, voluntary markets and insetting/supply chains.

3. Brain McConkey, chief scientists with Viresco Solutions, dwells on the details of soil carbon measurements and modelling whose reliability constitute one of the greatest obstacles to the wide spread of carbon markets.

4. Karen Haugen-Kozura, the president of the Viresco Solutions, shares her experience in developing carbon protocols for the agricultural carbon market in Alberta which is the first successful carbon market globally.

Russian materials together with translated English presentations can be found in the same folder as separate files entitled „Russian_Day_1“ etc.
